Certification program overview

 

All forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council must meet the internationally developed Principles and Criteria for forest management. These 10 Principles and 57 Criteria address legal issues, indigenous rights, labor rights, multiple benefits, and environmental impacts surrounding forest management.

These principles and criteria are the guiding framework for developing regional forest stewardship standards appropriate to local social, ecological and economic conditions. In Canada, there are four forest management standards that apply to the following regions:
